But maybe your abilities gave you ties that just hook up differently to them. I'm not really sure how something like that would work, but when my abilities were taken, I felt entirely unlike myself. I still do. I'm so used to having them. Now that they're gone, my entire body feels different, and my mind too.

It's true. I've had my ability since I was ten years old. It completely altered my body in every way, and my mind too, even though I didn't realize it at the time.
There was someone else here from my world with a similar ability, and he said the same. I didn't quite realize it until he put it to words, just like you're saying now.
That being said, if you save up enough shards, you can ask the crystal to give you back your ability. I've never heard of someone trying and not having it work.
Our abilities are very similar in that sense, then. My thoughts are also different, although—I'm not sure how much of that is due to what happened here, and what was caused by events before my arrival.

It's something I've been considering for a long time, but it hasn't been necessary yet. My ability comes with some pretty significant side effects.
