IC INFORMATION
Character Name: Eren Jaeger
Species: Human
Canon: Attack on Titan
Canon Point: Season 1, Episode 21
Character Age: 15
CRAU: No
CRAU Explanation: N/A
Character Appearance: Here!
Powers and Abilities:
Eren has the ability to transform into a titan, which is a large and powerful monster, capable of devastating physical attacks. His titan is called the Attack Titan. The power also allows him to see the memories of those who possessed the power of the Attack Titan in the past, as well as future memories from those who will possess the Attack Titan of the future (of which it is only him, but he does feed his past self future memories from a later canon point) - please note: from Eren’s current canon point, he cannot yet access the memories aforementioned, except through dreams, which he does not remember in enough detail to realize that they are memories; however, he may unlock this ability later if a canon update is made. Lastly, he possesses the power of the Founding Titan, which allows for God-like omniscient powers such as timeline control, the ability to alter the bodies of others of his race (of which there are a few in this game), the ability to control all titans, etc.; however, he is not able to access this power without touching someone of royal blood (from his canon), of which there are currently none in the game. He also has not yet learned of this power from his current canon point.
What Did Your Character Wish For?
Eren’s driving force is a desire for revenge against all enemies - at this canon point, that is namely titans, but includes others from his world who have been revealed to possess titan powers, and are considered by him to be traitors. His wish was that he’d gain enough power to destroy every titan/enemy as retribution for the plight titans have inflicted on humanity. He also believes that this will bring him and the rest of humanity freedom, which is another one of Eren's core motivations from the time he was born. He believes that he cannot achieve this freedom while titans/his enemies still breathe. He has secondary motivations as well, but is driven largely by hate and anger, even from this early canon point.
What Potion Did They Receive? A golden potion.
Did They Drink It? Yes.
Character Questions:
1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon? Or who is someone they miss the most?
Eren is most closely bonded with his childhood friends, Mikasa and Armin. He is, in fact, so loyal to them / concerned for their well being that, from a later canon point, he influences individuals in the past to take measures to protect Armin and Mikasa before they (or he) is even born.
He considers Armin to be the smartest person he knows, and has risked his life multiple times to save the boy. At a later canon point, when Armin is dying, and there is a chance to save either him or the Commander of their branch of the military, Eren cries and pleads that they save Armin, stating that he himself may not have the power to save humanity, but that Armin does. Armin was Eren’s first and only friend for a long period in his childhood. Eren spent a great deal of time attempting to fight off bullies who constantly tormented his friend.
Mikasa briefly lived with Eren and his parents after her parents were killed. When Eren first met Mikasa, she had been kidnapped. At only nine years old, he murdered the kidnappers (motivating her to assist with this) in order to protect her. They have had a deep bond ever since. Mikasa’s main motivation is to protect Eren regardless of circumstances. Eren can tend to take Mikasa’s affections for granted, but is nevertheless loyal to her, fostering romantic feelings as well as non-romantic feelings that bond them further.
However, Eren’s mother is the person that he misses the most. He has strong regrets about the way she died, eaten by a titan due to his (perceived) failure to rescue her. He regrets not telling her that he loved her enough. The death of Eren’s mother is what I would argue is the core motivation that drives him to make every subsequent action in the series; the moment that planted a seed of revenge in his heart with an undying passion to destroy every enemy responsible for contributing to the environment which led to Carla Jaeger’s death.
2. What are they most afraid of?
Eren fears being powerless and weak. He fears the potential inability to destroy his enemies and save humanity. There are several times from his canon point that he tries and fails to defeat titans or otherwise make incorrect moves to further the fight for humanity. This is highly distressing for him. Every time Eren fails, all he can think about is the fact that he’s still a weak child who is unable to make a difference in his world - this thereby contributes to his overall core motivation mentioned above; a need to gain more power in order to meet his goals. In short - at this canon point - Eren’s biggest fear is the potential for his own inadequacies, and the destruction that those inadequacies can bring about.
3. What is their weakness? Emotionally, mentally and physically?
Eren has several weaknesses. When it comes to his abilities as a Scout - although he made it into the highest tier of his graduating class as a cadet - he is not ranked as number one in combat, ODM gear (mobility gear that allows Scouts to fight titans), nor academics. He often makes mistakes during battle which can lead to precarious situations by virtue of simply being young and not yet having the skills that he needs to be an effective soldier.
However, Eren’s biggest weakness is the lack of ability to control his own emotions - particularly anger. Eren’s proclivity for anger leads to reckless behavior that not only endangers his own life and the life of his comrades, but has also led to the deaths of innocent collateral, which he admits that he disregards when he is focused on defeating an enemy. From this canon point and later canon points, recklessness due to anger has led to being kidnapped several times by enemies as well, which causes severe problems for his comrades who must come rescue him, putting themselves at risk.
Eren is very much a selfish and reckless child. He often thinks of himself and his own emotions before considering the wellbeing of others - even those that he is most close to (although he sometimes regrets this when these actions lead to misfortune).
The intensity with which he wishes to meet his goals (driven by his strong emotions) encroaches on Eren’s sense of morality and allows for him to hurt the people around him whether they are his enemies or not.
4. What would make them happiest?
Although I have spoken largely of Eren’s need for revenge and the desire to defeat his enemies, it is important to mention that these goals lead to the larger overall goal of finding freedom. Eren has felt like a caged animal his entire life; in fact, has seen all of humanity as “cattle in a pen” at the mercy of the titans. Although his idea of the enemy changes throughout the series as he learns more about titans and the fact that they are born of people, or are titan shifters who change from human to titan as needed, the need to defeat every titan continues to be his strongest need, as it will (in his mind) eventually lead to he and his people’s freedom. That being said, the only thing that could give Eren the happiness and peace that he seeks is finding that freedom. Whether freedom is possible to achieve is a matter of debate in the series, but it is Eren’s biggest desire, and finding his own personal sense of freedom is what would make him happiest - in fact, is the only thing that would make him truly happy.
5. What’s their type for a lover?
Eren loves as strongly as he hates, and tends to fall in love (whether platonically or romantically) very quickly. At the end of the series, part of what drives him to eventually destroy 80% of humanity is the desire to protect the people he loves and secure their freedom. That being said, I would consider Eren’s type for a lover to be anyone that he’s come to care strongly about, without much discrimination that depends on physical or personality traits. It is worth mentioning that his main love interest in the series is Mikasa, who is strong and a woman of few words, endlessly loyal to Eren, but able to hold her own without him when push comes to shove. They have known each other since they were very young and trust each other implicitly. That being said, we can assume that Eren values strength, independence, and loyalty in his partners. Eren also expresses in the series that he finds people who are overly nice to be ingenuine, and would rather spend his time with people who are honest and have strong convictions.
